It is tragic that it was only after his death that the music world discovered the talent of the Frenchman Ernest Chausson (1855-1899). Before that he had hardly been noticed and had to struggle for his existence. He came from a rich family and studied law before deciding at the age of 25 to comply with his musical vocation. On a beautiful spring day in June he cycled around his country house in Limay. During the descent from a hill, Chausson lost control of his bicycle and came to a standstill against a stone wall. He was instantly dead…
