NB THE PITCH IS NOW CLOSED
For the upcoming edition (‘Variations’ 13-17 May 2020) Classical Encounters challenges all ensembles and students from the classical music departments to come up with a pitch for a short program (30-40 minutes) matching the 2020 festival theme ‘Variations’.
Under the motto ‘Pop Out!’ we dare you to propose an original programme that has a form of ‘variation’ included or hidden in it. Anything is conceivable: works with theme & variations movements, improvisation (baroque, jazz or otherwise), variations in instrumentation, make or commission your own arrangement, search for variation in the composition-style of the composer or develop a way of presentation that has variation as an important element, etc etc
The most original ideas and most suitable concepts will be honoured with a performance in the festival. Fee €125,- per person.

Festivalkrant valt op de mat
Op donderdag 11 april valt de festivalkrant van Classical Encounters 2019 op de mat bij duizenden abonnees van de krant Den Haag Centraal – waar onze programmakrant als bijlage mee gaat.
De krant is uiteraard ook verkrijgbaar in de meeste Haagse boekhandels én tijdens het festival!
Eva Stegeman ontvangt stadspenning Den Haag
Artistiek leider Eva Stegeman ontvangt Haagse Stadspenning
Tijdens het openingsconcert van woensdag 4 april 2018 ontving artistiek leider Eva Stegeman de Haagse Stadspenning uit handen van wethouder Joris Wijsmuller voor haar grote verdiensten voor het jaarlijkse festival. De Stadspenning bestaat sinds 1977. Deze bronzen legpenning is bedoeld voor vrijwilligers die 25 jaar of langer (bestuurlijk) actief zijn in Den Haag. Nieuwsberichten: Omroep West AD Den Haag FM

“To my huge surprise, tonight before the start of tonight’s 15th-year-jubilee concert of Classical Encounters, I was honoured with the ‘stadspenning’ of the city of Den Haag. I was so taken by surprise – and actually so focused on the Debussy that we were about to play – that I was literally lost for words…
This ‘penning’ is a sign of recognition for all the hundreds of people that over last 15 years have helped me building this festival into what it has become.
Co-founder Hans Schouten, all board members, the Vriendenkring, our ambassadors, the city of The Hague, partners and sponsors, all the team members of our organization over the years, the many volunteers, all musicians and artists that have helped me shape the festival over the years, and last but not least my family without whose continuous love and support I would not have been able to achieve this. I am so happy the festival has truly become the meeting place for the inspiring musical and artistic ‘exchange’ that I always envisioned.

Programmakrant bij Den Haag Centraal
Nieuw: programmakrant bij Den Haag Centraal
Dit jaar publiceert Classical Encounters voor het eerst een programmakrant bij Den Haag Centraal. Alle abonnees van deze krant (voorheen de brochure) krijgen onze programmakrant er vandaag (bij Den Haag Centraal van donderdag 1 maart) gratis bij. Natuurlijk ontvangen ook onze trouwe bezoekers binnenkort een exemplaar op de mat.
8-11 maart | Cultuurankertournee langs de acht stadsdelen van Den Haag
Classical Encounters bestaat 15 jaar en trakteert op kamermuziek!
In aanloop naar het komende festival gaat het ‘Classical Encounters Strijkkwartet’ van 8 tot en met 11 maart op tournee langs alle acht cultuurankers (stadsdelen) van de stad Den Haag met gratis toegankelijke concerten getiteld Talking (about) Music.
De musici van het Classical Encounters Strijkkwartet spelen delen uit strijkkwartetten van Borodin, Stravinsky, Glass, Dvorák, de Haagse componist Johannes Verhulst en – speciaal vanwege Internationale Vrouwendag op 8 maart – Fanny Mendelssohn. Ze vertellen over hun vak, hun reizend bestaan, hun instrument en demonstreren hoe je kamermuziek maakt. De sfeer is informeel, ongedwongen. Wie wil kan vragen stellen en verzoekjes indienen!

Niek Baar wint Nederlands Vioolconcours
De Rotterdamse Niek Baar heeft afgelopen zondag 21 januari het Nederlands Vioolconcours gewonnen in de categorie Oskar Back. Niek bracht een prachtige poëtische vertolking van het vioolconcert van Robert Schumann. Op zaterdag 7 april zal hij in het festival te zien en te horen zijn in de Marotzaal op Landgoed Duivenvoorde.
